In 1847, along the banks of Jacob’s Creek, Johann Gramp planted his first vineyard. His vision was to create great tasting wines that reflect the true character of the grapes and the land. To this day we live and breathe this vision by producing wines that showcase how each grape variety expresses itself when shaped by the soil and the sun of Australia. Based on its performance at a selection of international wine shows from 1 Feb 2013 to 31 Jan 2014 to achieve the #1 ranking in the 2014 World Ranking of Wines by the World Association of Wine Writers & Journalists.

Bin 128 offers a solid and refined Shiraz bouquet of violets, blackberry, black cherry, and plum, with accents of pepper, chalky minerals, and oak toast. A smooth attack is followed by a medium-bodied mouth feel, with very nice acidity, moderate and supple tannins, and an underpinning of minerality. Match with braised beef with wild mushroom.

Bin 2 was first released in 1960, yet was discontinued in Australia in the 1970s at the height of the white wine boom. The original Bin 2 was an ‘Australian Burgundy’ style (despite its Rhone varieties) – typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on Shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mataro is still relatively uncommon in Australian table wines. Also known as Monastrell or Mtheirvedre, Mataro was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Sometimes used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley. It is greatly valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip.

Penfolds Bin 28 is a veritable showcase for Australia's warm-climate Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First created in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945, from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented, providing a substantial proportion of the fruit for this vintage.
